As of 2025, the tractor unit segment in Türkiye’s Heavy Commercial Vehicles production is preparing to align more strictly with international emissions and electronic safety regulations. The Euro 7 emissions standard and electronics-focused vehicle safety standards are leading to a reshaping of production infrastructure.

    Sectoral and Technical Transformation
Euro 7 provides a comprehensive framework that covers not only exhaust emissions in diesel or hybrid Heavy Commercial Vehicles, but also emissions arising from braking, tires and other sources over the vehicle’s service life. As a result, manufacturers are reassessing engine combustion efficiency, exhaust aftertreatment technologies, thermal management strategies and overall vehicle compliance.

In platforms with potential transition to electric and hybrid tractor units, electronic architecture is being redesigned in line with high-voltage safety and functional safety requirements.

Standards and Safety / Compliance Framework
The ISO 26262 functional safety standard defines the safety of electronic and software-based components in Heavy Commercial Vehicles. Within this scope, brake control units, engine control systems, electronic safety modules and high-voltage hybrid/electric components are subjected to standards-compliant processes across design, development, testing and validation stages.

This approach ensures that tractor units are developed in compliance with international requirements in terms of both environmental performance and electronic safety.

    International Alignment and Türkiye’s Perspective
As the Euro 7 regulation becomes mandatory in European markets, designing tractor units produced in Türkiye to standards integrated with European type approval processes is gaining importance. This situation requires manufacturers to carry out intensive R&D efforts both in the engine–emissions domain and in electronic safety and control systems.

    R&D and Engineering Dimension
In next-generation tractor unit platforms, work is being carried out in critical areas such as exhaust aftertreatment technologies, engine efficiency, thermal management systems, and battery and power electronics integration.

For electric and hybrid tractor units, high-voltage safety, battery management system validation and inverter–control unit integration are coming to the fore.

In addition, structural optimizations are being evaluated in mechanical systems such as braking, suspension, chassis durability and load safety to meet Euro 7 lifetime performance requirements.

With the new regulations, tractor unit production in Türkiye is progressing toward a structure that is more environmentally friendly, safer and fully compliant with international standards.
