Hydrogen-assisted production line
According to data from the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), 37% of commercial vehicle manufacturers in Türkiye moved into prototype development with hydrogen or hybrid-electric combinations in 2025.
Karsan moved its hydrogen-powered e-ATAK Hydrogen model into the series testing phase;
BMC announced an investment plan for hydrogen-compatible combustion systems based on its domestic engine.
Mercedes-Benz Türk plans to start trials of hydrogen tractors at its Aksaray plant in the first quarter of 2026.
Biofuel and HVO investments are rising
According to joint data from the Ministry of Industry and Technology and TÜBİTAK MAM, five different manufacturers in Türkiye had developed HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) compatible engine technology by the end of 2025.
Tofaş, Ford Otosan and BMC aim to make these systems ready for series production as of 2026.
The use of HVO and biofuel systems is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 70%.
Electric production infrastructure is expanding
According to OSD’s “2025 Electric Transformation Report”, 22% of commercial vehicle production lines in Türkiye have been converted to electric systems.
This rate stood at 9% in 2022.
Most of the investments have been directed toward battery production, power electronics and energy management software.
Domestic manufacturers expect electric commercial vehicles to reach an 18% share of total production in 2026.
The 2025 energy transformation in figures
• Share of hydrogen-based prototype development: 37%
• Share of production lines converted to electric: 22%
• Number of manufacturers developing HVO-compatible engine technology: 5
• CO₂ emission reduction potential: 70%
• Share of electric vehicle production (forecast – 2026): 18%

Toward 2026: a vision of zero-emission commercial vehicles
According to industry representatives, Türkiye aims to become one of Europe’s R&D centers for zero-emission commercial vehicle technologies by 2026.
Domestic manufacturers are adopting a “multi-fuel engineering” approach that supports the energy transition not only with electric drives but also with sustainable fuel systems. Türkiye’s production power is carrying its engineering to the center of global competition.
